USA Olympic Shooting Team to Use Federal Shotgun AmmunitionThe Firearm Blog

Federal shotshells will be the official ammunition used by the United States Olympic Shooting team for shotgun events. Due to extremely strict regulations surrounding ammunition and firearms possession in Japan, competitors will have to have ammunition shipped to them and held offsite until on-site reserves need to be replenished. Federal will be shipping their Gold Medal 24-gram International loads and Federal Gold Medal Paper loads which are said to have the extremely consistent shot size and patterning.

As the official ammunition of the US Olympic Shooting Team, Federal will supply much of the ammunition that competitors will be using. The ammunition to be used for this Summer’s Olympics left docks near the end of May and are scheduled to arrive at Camp Asaka, Japan (a JSDF base) where shooting competitions will take place.

Olympic regulations limit each athlete to 800 rounds stored in their personal locker which is provided by Toyko2020. This ammunition storage is only allowed to be supplemented by off-site storage as needed and ammunition transferred can only be transported by a Toyko2020 contractor. Ammunition will also be available for sale at the shooting rating for both competition and training use.

The Summer Olympics are set to begin on July 23rd and shooting competitors will compete in Men’s and Women’s Trap, Men’s and Women’s Double Trap, and Men’s and Women’s Skeet. Firearms used for these events mostly have the same equipment rules, however, pellet size for Trap and Double Trap is increased from a maximum allowed size of 2mm up to 2.6mm (#9 to #6-1/2).

During the 2016 Summer Olympics, Italy, Croatia, and Australia all took gold medal positions for the trap, skeet, and double trap events. United States female athletes Corey Cogdell and Kim Rhode managed to come out with bronze medals for Trap and Skeet respectively. Hopefully this year our Athletes can come out on top with the support of our nation and companies like Federal providing them with high-quality competitive ammunition.
