An explosion injured four employees Thursday morning at the Letterkenny Army Depot in central Pennsylvania.

Depot Commander Stephen Ledbetter confirmed the incident occurred around 7:15 a.m in the painting shop of Building 350. Three people were airlifted to a hospital in Baltimore while a fourth victim sought treatment at a local facility in Chambersburg.

Firefighters responded within minutes and worked quickly to contain the ensuing fire, officials said. All remaining workforce were 100 percent accounted for, Ledbetter said. No terrorism is suspected at this time.

“The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority,” Ledbetter said in a news release Thursday. “And the injured employees and their families are in our thoughts and prayers. The Letterkenny Army Depot’s safety specialists are conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident so we can determine what happened.”

The remaining employees of Building 350 will not return to work until Sunday evening, according to the news release. Local media reports the building provides maintenance for military vehicles.

The 18,000-acre facility opened weeks after Pearl Harbor as an ammunition depot and later evolved into “an organic maintenance facility” for tactile missile air defense systems. Officials refer to Letterkenny as “the depot of choice for warfighters.”

The depot also refurbishes generators, Humvees, mine-resistant route clearance vehicles and other soldier-support equipment.
