Barrett adds MRAD barrel conversion kits for Hornady 300 PRC
Tennessee-based Barrett Firearms this week announced new MRAD barrel conversion kits designed to accommodate the Hornady .300 PRC round.
The MRAD conversions come in fluted stainless and carbon fiber wrapped variants with a 26-inch length and 1:8-inch twist rate. Barrett says the conversion kit design allows shooters to maximize the potential of the long-range .300 PRC round.
The company’s MRAD is a modular design that can be reconfigured via barrels to allow for a variety of cartridge chamberings. The MRAD is currently used by militaries in over 10 nations.
“We are excited to add the .300 PRC to the list of chamberings available in the MRAD. The performance of the cartridge, even in its pre-production state has impressed professional users and the Barrett team in the MRAD/300PRC systems. Hornady’s long-range bullets plus the efficient case design are an unbeatable combination in the Barrett rifle,” Chris Barrett, Barrett’s President, said in a news release.
The 300 PRC, along with Hornady’s 6.5 Precision Rifle Cartridge, just recently got the nod of approval from the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute.
“Both the 6.5 PRC and the .300 PRC are multi-functional cartridges that are excellent choices for target and match shooting as well as hunting applications,” Joe Thielen, Hornady’s Assistant Director of Engineering, said in a press release. “The primary focus of the design of both the 6.5 PRC and the .300 PRC has always been long-range precision shooting. These cartridges and their respective chamber designs were carefully engineered to efficiently use today’s low-drag projectiles coupled with modern propellants that provide shooters with the capability to hit targets at ever-increasing distances.”
Barrett hasn’t yet disclosed when the conversion kits will be available nor at what price-point they will occupy.
