Aging Michigan Homeowner Stops Intruder With Shotgun Blast to Legs
The sight of a shotgun in the hands of a homeowner would normally be enough to strike fear into the heart of any would-be home invader. One such bad guy evidently wasn’t deterred, however, and he paid for it with a shotgun blast to his legs courtesy of a Michigan homeowner.
Michigan Homeowner Shoots Intruder
According to the NBC Montana, the homeowner, 79, heard strange noises in his pole barn at his home in Inland Township at around 11:20 p.m. last Tuesday. Alarmed, he grabbed a shotgun and went to investigate.
The homeowner discovered an intruder in the pole barn and told the man to get off his property. But the intruder didn’t listen. Instead, the homeowner alleges that the man moved toward him in a “threatening manner,” deputies said.
That’s when the homeowner fired his shotgun once, striking the intruder in both legs.
Sheriff’s Deputies and paramedics arrived on the scene shortly thereafter. The homeowner was keeping a close eye on the suspect. The 37-year-old bad guy was transported to an area hospital with injuries in his legs. Benzie County Sheriff Ted Schendel said the man was shot with birdshot, the Record-Eagle reports.
The suspect will be placed into custody once he’s released from the hospital. The investigation has been handed over to the Benzie County Prosecutor’s Office for Slickguns Review. Thus far, the homeowner hasn’t been arrested.
“We believe he was defending himself, he did this in self-defense, but the prosecutor ultimately gets to make that decision,” Schendel said.
